Carver & Veen {39} Typekit
Typekit Makes Sites Pretty. That should be enough, but there’s so much more!
In this episode, Ryan Carver and Greg Veen join us from Small Batch Inc., the makers of Typekit.
Typekit aims to solve all of the problems that currently prevent web designers from using commercial typefaces in their designs. Every major desktop browser will support linking to custom fonts from within your site’s CSS using @font-face. You can then use these fonts on your web site without users having to install the fonts on their system beforehand. => This really is going to change web design <=

Also, special guest Ariel Waldman also pops-in with a plate of cupcakes to promote Cupcake Camp
We’ve been working with foundries to develop a consistent web-only font linking license. We’ve built a technology platform that lets us to host both free and commercial fonts in a way that is incredibly fast, smoothes out differences in how browsers handle type, and offers the level of protection that type designers need without resorting to annoying and ineffective DRM.
As a Typekit user, you’ll have access to our library of high-quality fonts. Just add a line of JavaScript to your markup, tell us what fonts you want to use, and then craft your pages the way you always have. Except now you’ll be able to use real fonts. This really is going to change web design.

Short comment about the Google Chrome Frame..... thingy. At work, I'm trapped in Windows 2000 (yeah, I know...... welcome to 1999). Though we have freedom to download any browser we want, Webkit only runs on XP or above. So, I am trapped in IE 6 (since IE 7 needs XP or above). Bummerly, GC Frame only runs on Windows XP or above. Sigh. The only way, so far, that I've found to get Webkit on Windows 2000 is to use Lunascape.
Charlie, thanks for yor comment. I've also worked for companies who for whatever reason didn't want to move into the next generation of products, and it is frustrating. I know several developers who swear by Win2000, saying XP is just a pretty face... There really is no good way to spin this, is there? :)
All I know is, these are exciting times and we're going to see a shift soon, thanks to Google.
Another great podcast, and thanks for using my link. :)
The more I read/hear about Google Chrome Frame the more apparent its limitations become. Like Charlie I'm also trapped in a corporate environment that won't allow me to take advantage of it right now. But, the fact that something like it is even possible is encouraging.
Really enjoyed the Typekit interview too. I just received my invite last week and have started playing around with it on a personal site I'm developing. I never knew typography could be so exciting....
Hey guys, love these podcasts. Small request would be to post the track listings for the songs that play throughout the podcast. Seems like more and more music creeps in.
thanks :)
i second that. list the musical artists you feature throughout the podcast. A lot of the tracks i'd like to purchase. Keep up the great work and keep having fun.
Really interesting episode; I wish Typekit had been around since the beginning.
Just wondering: do you have a list of music used in the episode? Your guys' taste is eerily similar to mine...
